1 out of 5 stars Two in a row have died prematurely.   November 18, 2008
Jujube (NY, USA)
I wish that I could assign this product 0 stars.

Picture quality was good. Controls easy. Wished that there were better sound range, as different disks seem to have different volumes and this player couldn't compensate. It was often difficult to hear over average car noises. But, all of these observations are irrelevant when compared to the mechanical problems.

Purchased this model in April with a one year warranty. In June, some occasional problems, but we attributed them to worn or smudged disks. In July it began skipping and stopping continuously. Tried disk cleaners, DVD cleaners, to no avail. Closer examination revealed that it was the spindle.

Returned to Philips who replaced it...with a reconditioned model with a 3 month warranty. I was suspicious when I received it, but reasoned that a reconditioned model should work. Unfortunately, it has died (pixelated screen) at just 3 months. I've been shorted 6 months off of my original warranty and Philips is not sympathetic.

Next stop, Better Business Bureau or other agency.

I will not again purchase a Philips product.

3 out of 5 stars Turn up the volume   November 1, 2008

I bought this for my employees to watch training videos. It works well but the volume never gets loud enough to hear in the workplace. Headphones are usually used to help out in this situation. Easy to use and a good picture.

5 out of 5 stars The Best and Most Reliable   October 26, 2008
Pony Rider
I got this for my birthday, and the next day, I was out on the road with it. We watched many, many different movies, and they all worked great. Even in bumps, there was no freezing on the screen. The one con I have is that my brother used it, and he didn't turn it off all the way. There is no button to turn it off. Instead, there is a little flip-switch type thing. Make sure you turn it off ALL THE WAY (double check) so you can watch it when you aren't in reach of electric. Overall, this is worth the price, and I reccomend you get this DVD player over any others in this price range. I also recommend a case by CaseLogic to hold it in.

5 out of 5 stars Child Travel Life Saver   October 22, 2008
Katherine Dedura (Maple Valley, WA USA)
This DVD player was purchased right before a vacation and plane trip. A previous plane trip ended in a baby meltdown and we were looking for ways to avoid another one. This DVD player has been everywhere- planes, cars, restaurants and has endured some abuse done by the child and still works great! Two little improvements- the picture isn't as clear as it could be and the volume is almost too quiet for plane rides.

2 out of 5 stars Starts off great, but will breaks very easily   October 22, 2008
rhumen (Lake Mary, FL USA)
My second player of this model just broke for the second time. I had purchased it first for a plane ride and it served its purpose very well: bright screen, loud speakers, loads quick. But a small (SMALL= less than 1 foot) drop in a padded protective case on a carpeted floor and it was rendered inoperable. Thankfully I was within the return guidelines and I exchanged for the same model.

This time it was mishandled and dropped on my bed mattress!! again, less than 1 foot drop on an extremely padded surface and now it will not load. the laser does not move.

next time, i will buy Sony or some other reputable manufacturer. this is the 3rd philips product that has broken unneccessarily for me (unportable DVD, 27" TV, portable DVD)
